Sonic Origins is a compilation of four remastered Sonic the Hedgehog games. You can now play Sonic the Hedgehog (from 1991), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (from 1992), Sonic CD (from 1993) and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (from 1994). You can play these games in their original form or in the remastered widescreen format. The new version added content such as Boos Rush mode and an in-game museum of Sonic games.

You can now play the legendary Hidden Palace Zone in Sonic 2. To do so, follow these steps.
- In Sonic 2, reach Mystic Cave Zone Act 2. You can achieve this by playing regularly or by choosing this level from the cheat menu.
- At the level, go right.
- When you reach the bridge, fall.
- Go right as far as you can.
- Fall down and go to the boxes.
- You will see a wooden bridge. Lower it and jump off the yellow spring.
- Head to the pit and jump into it.
- Congratulations, you have unlocked the Hidden Palace area!
